How to install SDB Explorer: A user interface for Amazon SimpleDB?

Although installation of SDB Explorer is self explanatory task, here are some guidelines for your reference.

Installation on different operating systems differs a bit, here are details for you.

MS Windows

  1. Download SDBExplorer<version>.zip from http://www.sdbexplorer.com/simpledb-download.html
  2. Click on download from the section Download for Windows Environment.
  3. Read end user agreement and (if agree) select download link located down the page, right side or top middle.
  4. Run or Save exe file to your hard disk. Download takes time depends upon your speed of Internet connection.
  5. Open the folder and double click on application icon (e.g. SDB-Explorer-installer-2008.07.00.00).
  6. A wizard appears, simply follow steps. 
  7. On welcome screen, click Next .
  8. On next screen select option from i. Install for anyone using this computer [1] ii. Install just for me [2] and iii. Portable install  [3] .
  9. Check license agreement and click Next .
  10. Choose location where you want to install SDB Explorer.
  11. On completing SDB Explorer setup wizard click  Finish button to close wizard.
  12. If you select All users or Only for me , SDB Explorer is installed on your machine in Start --> Program files --> SDB Explorer --> SDB Explorer, Uninstall SDB Explorer.[If you select portable install then it will be installed only at desktop] 

Macintosh Operating System

  1. Download SDBExplorer<version>.zip from http://www.sdbexplorer.com/simpledb-download.html
  2. Click on download from section Download for Mac OS X Environment.
  3. Read end user agreement and (if agree) select download link located down the page, right side or top middle.
  4. Save file to your hard disk. Download takes time depends upon your speed of internet connection.
  5. Extract the zipped file.
  6. Run SDBExplorer.App.
  7. Run or Save file to your hard disk.

Linux Operating system

  1. Download SDBExplorer<version>.tar.gz from http://www.sdbexplorer.com/simpledb-download.html
  2. Click on download from section Download for Linux Environment
  3. Read end user agreement and (if agree) select download link located down the page, right side or top middle.
  4. Run or Save file to your hard disk.
  5. Download takes time depends upon your speed of Internet connection.
  6. Select the ShellScript (SDBExplorer.sh) file from its current root location.
  7. Do right click to select " Open with other application ".
  8. Select " Text editor " from the list of programs and click “ Open ”.
  9. Locate the path written after SDBExplorer_home .
  10. Replace the path from the current path of SDBExplorer at your computer system.
  11. Save and close the ShellScript (SDBExplorer.sh) file.
  12. Place the JRE in SDB current root directory.
  13. Run SDB Explorer.sh file

How To Uninstall SDB Explorer

When you install SDB Explorer through "installer", it is simply installed at a destination of your choice. A short cut is also created in programs menu.
So, to uninstall, you can just click the shortcut "Uninstall SDB Explorer"from Start -> All Programs -> SDB Explorer.

  • ^ Install for anyone using this computer : This option installs SDB Explorer in program files of all the users exist on user’s machine.
  • ^ Install just for me : This option installs SDB Explorer in program files of a specified user.
  • ^ Portable install : This option installs SDB Explorer on desktop and there will be no entry in startup. Installing as portable it can be run within any portable media like pen drive, CD etc.
